🌱 Looking Ahead with WWOOF
As we move into spring and towards the end of 2026, we’d like to thank all our hosts and WWOOFers for being part of the WWOOF New Zealand community.
Spring is a busy and exciting time, and many of our hosts are welcoming registered WWOOFers to join them in their gardens, orchards, paddocks and everyday life on their properties.
From welcoming visitors and sharing your home and knowledge, to discovering New Zealand through WWOOF or planning your next adventure, you’re all helping to keep this unique community and experience going.
💻 Our New WWOOF Platform
We’re excited to share that initial development of a new WWOOF platform has begun.
We’ve been working from the ideas, comments and feedback shared by our hosts and WWOOFers, and we now have an initial platform taking shape. We’re using a customisable base platform that gives us a starting point to develop features specifically for our WWOOF community.
The aim is to modernise the WWOOF platform and make it easier and more enjoyable to use. A major focus is making the WWOOF site easier to use on mobile devices, while improving communication, profiles, searching and the overall member experience.
Some of the features being developed include:
- Mobile-first platform – making WWOOF easier to use wherever you are.
- Bookings & calendars – an optional booking system to help hosts and WWOOFers keep track of upcoming stays.
- Skills & achievements – a way to recognise things WWOOFers have learned, such as pruning, fencing, composting, animal care and more.
- Community activity feed – encouraging members to share experiences and stay connected with the wider WWOOF community.
- Marketplace – a place where hosts can showcase and promote their homegrown produce, crafts and products, including farmers’ market stalls and roadside stalls.
📅 An easier way to manage stays
The proposed booking system will be optional and it will give hosts simple way to keep track of who is coming, when they are arriving and when they are leaving.
It could also make the follow-up after a stay easier, with members prompted to leave a review and share their experience while it’s still fresh.
