Homemade Hand Sanitizer - March 17, 2020

Homemade Sanitizer:

So simple if you can get hold of the ingredients. Mix 3/4 cup isopropyl alcohol, rubbing alcohol (for all our American members) or methylated spirits and 1/4 cup Aloe Vera Gel together and pour into a clean spray bottle for use. If you want to make it smell nice you can add a few drops of essential oil such as Lavender Oil or Tea Tree Oil. To help soften hands you can also add 1/4 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil.  There are good online, New Zealand websites where you can find these ingredients.

Homemade Re-usable Toilet Paper:

With all the madness on toilet paper going off the shelves (wouldn’t be my first choice on what to stock up on) we thought why not have your own no waste toilet paper to try!

All you need is organic flannel and a sewing machine or needle and thread. Cut into squares and sew two squares together to get a double layer happening. Then store in a basket next to the toilet. Afterwards you can chose to rinse and put in wash basket or put into a water and vinegar bath to soak before going to the wash.

This not only will help if we do run out of toilet paper but also you will not be using any dry, bleached paper on your sensitive bits that will only travel into our sewer systems. Win/win situation really. Just hope our guests will be open-minded about it when they come visit…

Stay safe out there
