West of the Moon is a small property in a coastal village in Karekare. Karekare is a black sand surf beach situated betwwen the Tasman sea and Waitakere ranges. The property has the Karekare stream running though it. It is part of the Buffers Project. This is run by Auckland Council and EcoMatters Environment Trust. Pest plants and predators are two of the biggest threats to native biodiversity, and caring for our ecosystems by weeding and controlling predators can ensure our native species have a chance to survive – and thrive. The property has had support from EcoMatters in this and planting of new native plants. We would like to continue this work. We are working with expertise from a local nursery in sourcing  subspecies of local natives.
