Introduction
Describe your property and the projects you need help with. The character limit helps it to fit on mobile devices and the printed book.   /2000
If you are passionate about forest restoration, regenerative gardening, wanting to improve your English, or seeking to immerse yourself in New Zealand culture, our location offers the perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and community connection. Join us in our journey to transform our section and blend it back into the bush through removing exotic species, releasing existing native plants, and reintroducing New Zealand grasses, sedges, flax, and bushes to support local biodiversity.

Tasks can include establishing raised vegetable beds, composting, mulching, collecting seed, plant propagation, clearing invasive plants, track creation and benching, and whatever else it takes to restore the land. We’d love to share it with WWOOFers happy to help with gardening, landscaping, and possibly some small construction projects.

General Information
You can add extended general information about your property

We've only been on this property ourselves since late 2023. While the site is only 1/2 acre in size, it is bound on three sides (unfenced) by the regional park and mostly clad in regenerated bush along the side of the Pareraho / Belmont Stream gully.

We have lots of plans for the restoration, and there will be things to do for several years to come. Currently, we are creating raised red brick vegetable beds to become as self-sufficient as we are able. The beds will be entirely organic, using only found organics, straw and compost.

I have begun cutting back the non-native trees. The next step is clearing invasive vines and underbrush. Ultimately, we will be replacing the European grasses with New Zealand-suitable native grasses, sedges, flax and bushes.

Common tasks may include composting, mulching, collecting seeds, plant propagation, potting-on, or planting, clearing invasive plants, trail creation and track benching. There will be various other odd household jobs throughout the year, such as stacking firewood or making fire briquettes for our wood burner heater or weeding the vegetables. There are alternative building projects available if you are interested, including brick-laying and fence building. I do voluntary pest control using trap lines in the regional park nearby, and you are welcome to join me if that is of interest.

We ask for around 4 hours of help per day depending on the task and some help with dishes and cooking. We'd love to have you share your favourite dishes! We are also happy to discuss occasional full days off to explore the region or Wellington. We are quite flexible. We are happy for you to email or phone us with any questions.

Nearby activities and services include: Speedy's Reserve, Pareraho, and Percy Scenic Reserve for native bush walks, waterfalls, swimming holes, and gardens. Brewtown, Upper Hutt offer breweries, axe-throwing, ice skating, and mini-golf. Jackson St, Petone has historic charm, cafes, and boutique shopping. The Dowse Art Museum. The Hutt River Trail for walking and cycling; the Remutaka Cycle Trail offers further exploration. Queensgate Shopping Centre is the regions largest mall.

We can potentially meet you at the bus station, train station, or even the airport if you don't have a vehicle. Note: the closure of Melling Station until 2028, means the closest train station is Waterloo, then the 145 Metlink bus to Belmont.
